Scene of Inagbe Beach, site of the pipeline explosion

INAGBE BEACH, Nigeria – A pipeline explosion killed up to 200 people on the outskirts of Nigeria’s biggest city on Friday, leaving charred corpses on a sandy beach where locals went to tap into the pipe to steal fuel.

The Red Cross said the pipeline blew up while thieves were drilling into it, igniting about 500 nearby cans full of fuel. Theft of fuel or crude oil from pipelines is common in Nigeria.

ah ah… wonders neva cease, my sympathy to the families of those that were killed or injuried. Una don see now, the situation our country has placed her citizens in. It’s quite a tragedy.
i pray God will be mercy on our country and her leaders. It’s really difficult for me to understand why a wealthy country such as Nigeria can’t provide for her citizens, thus causing the people to go thru any measure in order to survive. It’s quite sad.

…. and Obasanjo is talking about increasing the security in the pipeline. Personally, i don’t think that would stop the problem; providing the people with the basic things they need in life might help decrease this tragedy from reoccuring.

By the way, I’ll post the pictures we took once they are available. And lets see if we can all hook up at the events coming up in July (in NY or MD).
