Welcome to blogging!
May 8, 2006
My people, I welcome una oh. Due to my inability to keep track of all the e-mails that we exchange (using FGCEClassOf93@yahoogroups.com), I decided to setup this weblog for us. The way it works is that we post a topic of interest and then everyone has a chance to respond with comments.
Blogging has its advantages over traditional e-mail. For one, all posts and related responses are cataloged and saved in one place which makes it possible for everyone to return at a later date and review them. Also, we can use this forum to share video galleries and video clips (I have setup similar blogs before).
So, leave a comment and let's keep talking!

I hope so too. Just in case, there are interesting ways to keep track of what is been said on this blog. One way is to visit the link once in a while to see if anything has changed.
The alternative way (which I prefer) is to subscribe to the RSS feeds to the right of this page. To do this you need an RSS reader. If you do not have an RSS reader (or don’t even know what it is), you can download and install the RSS reader to the right of this page. You then copy the RSS links into the reader. The reader can automatically poll the blog at regular intervals (which you set) and alerts you know when anything changes.
Let me know if you have any problems doing this.

Edu,
Thanks for the blog. I guess it makes for easier discussion on topics of interest without one getting lost in the maze of the class group mails. I´m currently in Spain and here, with the discovery of the “gospel” of Judas and the upcoming film of the Da Vinci Code, there is a heightened interest in knowing more about the figure of Christ: was he married to Mary Magdalene? How were the gospels written and are there historical proofs for them? Did Christ found a church or were the apostles the ones that invented it? What happened in the early centuries of the church? etc. I´ve done a bit of reading on this but I would like others to share their opinions.

Tony, as a Catholic, and one that belonged to Opus Dei growing up in Enugu, I can tell you that The Da Vinci Code is nothing more than sensational reading.
We can’t argue the mysticism of Leonardo Da Vinci and his dabblings into the occult, freemasonry and such, but to suggest that he belonged to a society guarding the true meaning of the Holy Grail is ridiculous.
Amongst art historians, it is well known that da Vinci used subtleties layered into his art (particularly those commissioned by the Church) to ridicule the fabric of christianity.
I guess it can be argued whether this was merely mischief or part of a grand conspiracy.

Una just dey hail me, my head dey swell anyhow. We thank God sha.
. Obi, wetin I go do. No be me call am blog. Nah so dem call am for my ear.
Concerning the Da Vinci conversation, I'll like to move it to its own separate post, that way all the responses would be related to the topic. Tony, Obi I hope you fellas don't mind.
I'll be the defacto moderator of this blog for now. We can certainly rotate it over time. So If you have a topic of interest that deserves its own separate post and comments, just send it to me and I'll put it up.

Edu,
Don´t mind your shifting the topic to another post. Maybe you can do the same for Obi´s comment. I graduated from Medicine in UNEC and I´m doing a course in Eclesiastical Sciences here. Hope to be through in 2 years time.

Ah Tony, Sounds like the priesthood fo you. Nah so?

Tony Odoh | May 11, 2006 at 7:45 am
Hey Edu, don´t rush it! I´ve being in Opus Dei for more than a decade and the doctrinal formation that is part of it entails a sound knowledge of the faith. While in med school, I was also doing courses in Philosophy. Normally the studies are spread out over many years but now I´m doing them at a faster pace and most probably will finish with a doctorate in either Philosophy or Theology. I have every intention of continuing my work as a doctor when I return to Nigeria although I´m also open to other possibilities…

I participated in Opus Dei as well in Lagos. There used to be a center in Akoka, right outside the gates of UNILAG. I have certainly lost touch since then. More strength to you.
As per medicine, what is your area of specialization?

Asiwaju | May 11, 2006 at 2:30 pm

Ah, Asiwaju, nah small small I take dey find out sey nah mad man you be oh!
I hope blogging does catch on as a better alternative. The conversations are better organized which works well for me. The biggest concern is that people don’t like to visit yet another new link, and have to do it often to read what everyone is talking about. The work around to this is to use an RSS reader which will automatically notify you if a new topic or comment has been added. I’ll help anyone out with this if it’s a concern.
Oh, by the way, the one for Federal nah “blocking”

Edu, I know the place you mean. I´ve been in the centre near Akoka although I daresay it has changed a bit since you were last there. You can find out from the net if there´s any centre near you now.
Abounu, if you would like to know what Opus Dei´s all about, visit http://www.opusdei.org
